Accessing Custom Tuning License for Edge Insight CTS3 & Edge Evolution
Insight to L5P Custom Tunable Device Instruction Guide:
This process outlines the required steps to convert an Insight CTS3 (84130-3) to a L5P
Duramax Evolution with Custom Tuning capability. This upgrade will trigger file delivery
to the Insight CTS3 to convert it to Evolution L5P (user would get the Edge L5P
calibrations by default), initiate shipping of the required ECM/TCM Locksmith Unlock
Tools, and deliver the custom tune license to allow the device to flash approved third-
party Custom Tune calibrations into the vehicle.
1. Visit edgeproducts.com and select ‘Support’ on the homepage header menu
2. Select ‘Software Updates’ and download the Update Agent 1.0 software available
for both PC and Mac users. This software is used to update all our CTS3 branded
products, but is also used to upgrade them at the user’s discretion
3. Once the Update Agent software has been downloaded, open the software and
create a user account. Once the user account has been created plug the CTS3
device into the PC with the included update cable
4. Update Agent program should auto-detect the CTS3 device and populate your
devices serial number and part number. If the device has required updates, you
can select ‘yes’ to update the device when prompted
5. Once the updates have been downloaded into your CTS3, the device will
automatically reboot and Update Agent will tell you it is ‘Up to Date’. The program
will then automatically launch our Ignition Webstore where you can make device
upgrade purchases
6. Once at the Ignition website, you’ll need to comb through the options and find the
one specific to your model year truck. For L5P Duramax owners looking to add
Edge or Custom Tuning you’ll to select one of two applicable items
- IUG85400-262K for 2017-2019 L5P
- This electronically delivers Edge ECM calibrations and the Custom
Tune license to your CTS3. It will also trigger shipment of the
required ECM unlock kit
- IUG85400-261K for 2020-2023 L5P
- This electronically delivers Edge ECM and TCM calibrations and
the Custom Tune License to your CTS3. It will also trigger shipment
of the required ECM/TCM unlock kit
7. Once you select the upgrade you need, add it to cart and complete the purchase
by entering your shipping and payment information to finalize the transaction
8. Once the payment has been completed, you can disconnect your CTS3 from the
PCM and close Update Agent. Our system will automatically generate the
required files for delivery for your device serial number.
9. Within 5-10 minutes, you should receive an email confirming the upgrade order
(will come from Holley.com) with your purchase receipt and a second email (from
Update Agent) when the new files are ready for download into your CTS3 device
10. Once files being ready for download, open Update Agent software and plug your
CTS3 device into the PC again. You should be instructed that there are updates
available and asked to continue.
11. Select ‘Yes’ and Update Agent will then convert your Insight CTS3 (84130-3) into
the Evolution CTS3 (85400-260). This delivers the tuning database, required
unlock process steps and license, and the additional Custom Tune License you’ll
need to move forward with tuning the vehicle.
12. Once complete, the device will reboot again and launch the Ignition store, this
confirms the transaction has been completed and the device can be unplugged
and returned to the vehicle. You can continue using the device as a monitor (you’ll
notice it boots with the Evolution logo instead of the previous Insight logo), but will
not be able to tune the vehicle until your Unlock Hardware arrives
13. Upon receiving your Unlock Hardware you can then select ‘Tune’ in the menu of
the CTS3 device and begin the flash tuning steps, starting with the ECM/TCM
unlocks. The device will walk you through these steps, one-by-one. There will also
be unlock instructions included with the hardware you received to help with that
process.
14. Once the vehicles modules are unlocked, you can reconnect the CTS3 device
directly to the OBD-II port, you’ll no longer need the Unlock Hardware for any
flashing in the future. Enter the ‘Tune’ menu again and select the calibration of
your choice. You can flash the pre-loaded Edge calibrations and ‘Customize’ them
within the device with the settings you’d prefer.
15. Flashing the truck with the ‘Modify Stock’ or any Edge calibration will generate the
required ‘backup.grd’ files you’ll need if you’re opting to run third party Custom
Tunes.
16. Flashing the ECM/TCM initiates the read process and will save your factory
calibrations into the CTS3’s internal tune folder. Once this process is completed,
you can then take your CTS3 back to your PC
17. Once connected at the PC, open the CTS3 drive populated and open the ‘Tune’
folder. Copy and paste the ‘backup.grd’ file(s) to your desktop. These files can
then be emailed to your preferred third-party calibration company. Our email is stockfile@duramaxtuner.com
18. Once they have generated your custom tune files and emailed them back to you,
reconnect your CTS3 to the PC and simply drag and drop your new files onto the
main drive of the CTS3 and not any of the folders. The device will confirm that you
loaded each file(s) one by one. Hit continue to confirm each.
19. Returning to the vehicle with your CTS3, power up the vehicle in the run position,
without starting the engine, select ‘Tune’ and then ‘Custom Tuning’. You should
see your new Custom calibrations within this sub-menu, which can then be
selected and flashed into your ECM/TCM
