Hp Tuners L5P Pickup Unlocked Ecm Install Instructions

This article will walk you through installing your L5P tuning package

For 2017-2019 models the‌ ‌Factory‌ ‌ECM‌ ‌is‌ ‌located‌ ‌behind‌ ‌the‌ ‌driver’s‌ ‌side‌ ‌headlight,‌ ‌in‌ ‌between‌ ‌the‌ ‌battery‌ ‌and‌ ‌ the‌ ‌power‌ ‌steering‌ ‌pump.‌ ‌It‌ ‌is‌ ‌fastened‌ ‌with‌ ‌1 ‌christmas‌ ‌tree‌ ‌clips‌ ‌or 2 10MM bolts.‌ ‌It‌ ‌is‌ ‌easiest‌ ‌to‌ ‌remove‌ ‌the‌ ‌2‌ ‌most‌ ‌forward‌ ‌
connectors‌ ‌before‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌pull‌ ‌out‌ ‌your‌ ‌ecm,‌ ‌and‌ ‌leaving‌ ‌the‌ ‌3rd‌ ‌one‌ ‌connected‌ ‌until‌ ‌it‌ ‌is‌ ‌free‌ ‌and‌ ‌brought‌ ‌up‌ ‌where‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌see‌ ‌it‌ ‌above‌ ‌the‌ ‌radiator‌ ‌hose.‌ ‌The‌ ‌connectors‌ ‌
themselves‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌lock‌ ‌that‌ ‌needs‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌slid‌ ‌forward,‌ ‌pushed‌ ‌down,‌ ‌and‌ ‌at‌ ‌that‌ ‌point‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌lift‌ ‌up‌ ‌the‌ ‌locking‌ ‌lever‌ ‌which‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌push‌ ‌away‌ ‌from‌ ‌the‌ ‌ecm.‌ ‌The‌ ‌“Tcm”‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌style‌ ‌connector‌ ‌and‌ ‌is‌ ‌mounted‌ ‌on‌ ‌the the Firewall for 2017 Trucks or on the fan shroud for 2018-2019 Trucks.‌

For 2020+ Models the ECM is located in the driver side wheel well. The easiest way to access this is by jacking up the front, driver's side of the truck just enough, where the suspension extends but does not lift the wheel off the ground. Remove the factory fender liner (you can leave the fender flare attached)

If you see your vehicle's VIN at the top of the window you can skip this step.

This‌ ‌TCM‌ ‌has‌ ‌no‌ ‌data‌ ‌so‌ ‌will‌ ‌require‌ ‌a‌ ‌driving‌ ‌relearn‌ ‌process.‌‌ ‌‌Do‌ ‌not‌ ‌tow‌ ‌or‌ ‌drive‌ ‌the‌ ‌vehicle‌ ‌erratically‌ ‌before‌ ‌doing‌ ‌this.‌ ‌TCM‌ ‌relearn‌ ‌process‌ ‌is‌ ‌found‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌last‌ ‌step‌ ‌of‌ ‌these‌ ‌instructions.‌‌ ‌In‌ ‌Order‌ ‌to‌ ‌flash‌ ‌your‌ ‌tcm‌ ‌with‌ ‌your‌ ‌ECM‌ ‌or‌ ‌just‌ ‌tcm‌ ‌alone,‌ ‌follow‌ ‌the‌ ‌steps‌ ‌below.‌ ‌Make‌ ‌sure‌ ‌you‌ ‌select‌ ‌write‌ ‌calibration‌ ‌on‌ ‌both‌ ‌the‌ ‌ecm‌ ‌&‌ ‌tcm‌ ‌or‌ ‌just‌ ‌the‌ ‌tcm‌ ‌if‌ ‌you‌ ‌desire.‌

‌TCM‌ ‌Relearn‌ ‌Process-‌ ‌After‌ ‌you‌ ‌have‌ ‌installed‌ ‌your‌ ‌ECM‌ ‌&‌ ‌TCM‌ ‌and‌ ‌determined‌ ‌the‌ ‌vehicle‌ ‌is‌ ‌operational‌ ‌you‌ ‌will‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌a‌ ‌TCM‌ ‌Relearn.‌ ‌The‌ ‌entire‌ ‌learning‌ ‌process‌ ‌will‌ ‌take‌ ‌a‌ ‌few‌ ‌hundred‌ ‌miles,‌ ‌however‌ ‌you‌ ‌need‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌a‌ ‌basic‌ ‌driving‌ ‌learn‌ ‌first.‌ ‌Do‌ ‌not‌ ‌tow‌ ‌or‌ ‌drive‌ ‌the‌ ‌truck‌ ‌hard‌ ‌until‌ ‌this‌ ‌initial‌ ‌process‌ ‌is‌ ‌complete.‌ ‌Find‌ ‌a‌ ‌safe‌ ‌location‌ ‌where‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌get‌ ‌your‌ ‌vehicle‌ ‌up‌ ‌to‌ ‌60-65‌ ‌mph‌ ‌and‌ ‌back‌ ‌to‌ ‌a‌ ‌stop.‌ ‌First‌ ‌run‌ ‌through‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌gears‌ ‌from‌ ‌1st‌ ‌to‌ ‌6th‌ ‌gear‌ ‌at‌ ‌¼‌ ‌throttle.‌ ‌Then‌ ‌let‌ ‌the‌ ‌truck‌ ‌downshift‌ ‌through‌ ‌all‌ ‌gears‌ ‌as‌ ‌you‌ ‌slow‌ ‌down‌ ‌and‌ ‌come‌ ‌to‌ ‌a‌ ‌stop.‌ ‌Now‌ ‌run‌ ‌the‌ ‌truck‌ ‌from‌ ‌1st‌ ‌to‌ ‌6th‌ ‌gear‌ ‌at‌ ‌½‌ ‌throttle‌ ‌,‌ ‌again‌ ‌let‌ ‌it‌ ‌downshift‌ ‌through‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌gears‌ ‌and‌ ‌come‌ ‌to‌ ‌a‌ ‌stop.‌ ‌Do‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌process‌ ‌with‌ ‌¾‌ ‌throttle‌ ‌&‌ ‌wide‌ ‌open‌ ‌throttle.‌

‌You‌ ‌have‌ ‌now‌ ‌completed‌ ‌a‌ ‌basic‌ ‌trans‌ ‌relearn‌ ‌and‌ ‌are‌ ‌okay‌ ‌to‌ ‌drive.‌ ‌You‌ ‌may‌ ‌do‌ ‌this‌ ‌process‌ ‌multiple‌ ‌times‌ ‌if‌ ‌you‌ ‌feel‌ ‌the‌ ‌shifting‌ ‌is‌ ‌still‌ ‌too‌ ‌erratic‌ ‌for‌ ‌normal‌ ‌driving.‌ ‌A‌ ‌complete‌ ‌learn‌ ‌will‌ ‌usually‌ ‌take‌ ‌anywhere‌ ‌from‌ ‌100‌ ‌to‌ ‌300‌ ‌miles‌ ‌of‌ ‌different‌ ‌driving‌ ‌styles.‌ ‌
